I asked more than one cadre member, and got stonewalled each time. I got there from basic, got set up, and a couple of days later, I started asking Cadre about switching. I had a buddy go through DLI, so I was like 95% sure you could switch (you can, if you're 30 days out from your class date, not the English class they give you but the actual language class, also the person you're switching with has to be the same gender, have a comparable DLAB score, and more or less the same start date for class). Your DLAB score is really more of a guideline than a rule, I had a 112 and got put in a CAT III language, and people with low scores get waived into Arabic and Chinese all the time. I had to decipher it in the code on the back page, PF for Persian Farsi. You won't hear anything about what language you get until they give you your orders packet at the end of basic. I'm not an expert on how they slot languages, but I can tell you my experience. Do not answer n00b questions on the main boards.
